Pema Rinzing Bhutia, 43 years old is a native of the village of Khechuperi Cho Jo in west Sikkim, India. Belonging to the holy region of 'Khechupaldri Lake,' which is a prime holy and spiritual pilgrimage of of both Hindus and Buddhists, he has experienced enough ups and downs in his life - mostly the downs which make him stand where he is today.
Pema Rinzing Bhutia started out as a young man with bright dreams about the future. He began working from scratch breaking stones and undertaking other labourous manual jobs. He was blessed with the love of a child. But misfortune awaited him as his son born in 1996 contracted a fatal heart disease and passed away at the age if 14 while he was studying in class 6. He had to witness the heart wrenching event of his son's death in front of his helpless eyes which only shed tears, but he could do nothing to change his fate.
This tragic event posed as a turnaround in Pema Rinzing's life who decided to dedicate his life in helping the poor and the sickly. With his life savings he set up the M. Dadul Memorial Guest House dedicated to the memory of his deceased son. He had to arrange all the funds and depend on himself, his earnings, savings and his own honest efforts. Being a grass level political activist, he was denied any financial help or assistance by the leaders for his son's treatment when they assumed power.
With his earnings from the M. Dadul Guest House and other small time businesses, he helps the young and needy of the adjoining region and his village who cannot afford treatment of heart related ailments. He even conducts puja and holds prayers in his Green Tara Monastery (Dolma Lagang monastery) which he build himself near his guest house for their speedy recovery. Whatever he owns, or is today, he has stretched out to others so that they do not have to face the cruel and sad experience he went through.
